A
diesel generator radiator is an essential component of the generator system. When the diesel generator is operating under load, heat is released into the atmosphere, lowering the cooling water temperature. The radiator must have sufficient heat dissipation area and be made of a material with good thermal conductivity. Let's take a look at five tips for using a diesel generator radiator:
1. Regularly bleed air from the radiator: The radiator is crucial for diesel generators, helping to dissipate heat. In many cases, this can lead to corrosion, affecting its proper operation. Corrosion is arguably the main cause of radiator failure, as air trapped in the water accelerates the corrosion process during operation. Therefore, always ensure that pipe joints are leak-proof and regularly add water to the top of the radiator to bleed air and keep the system "air-free."
2. Precautions for Radiator Operation: The coolant in a diesel generator radiator is often very hot and under pressure. Do not tidy the radiator or remove piping when it is not cooling. Do not operate the fan or open the fan guard when it is running.
3. Preventing Radiator Corrosion: The radiator should never be partially filled with water, as this accelerates corrosion. For inoperative generator sets, all water should be removed or fully filled. If possible, use distilled or naturally soft water and add an appropriate amount of rust inhibitor.
4. Removing Deposits from the Radiator
For stubborn deposits that cannot be removed by the above methods, remove the radiator and soak it in hot alkaline water for about 20 minutes, then rinse with hot water. If you choose to use hard water for irrigation due to leaking joints, or if you have been running the diesel generator for a while without using a rust remover, the cooling system may become clogged with scale.
5. Keep the Radiator Exterior Clean
Exterior Cleaning: In dusty or dirty environments, the radiator joints may become clogged with debris, insects, and other objects, which will affect radiator efficiency. Regularly clean these light deposits with a low-pressure hot water and detergent spray, steam, or water spray from the front of the radiator to the fan. Spraying from the opposite direction will only attract dirt closer to the center. When using this method, cover the diesel engine and alternator with a cloth.
